HTML formatting for email makes them so heavy! Except they are “heavy” with formatting code, graphics, special signatures, etc.
With plain text email, only words are transmitted to the recipient. No formatting information.
Plain text can seem pretty bare-bones. Think about it this way……plain text emails are quick and easy to read. They don’t contain a bunch of unnecessary photos, fancy signatures, special colors and fonts, logos, etc. Smartphone users definitely appreciate plain text options.
Let’s look closer at some of the Pros and Cons.
Cons of Plain Text Email
- No pictures, graphics, or logos.
- No colors.
- No fancy fonts.
- No drop-cap letters, shadows, etc.
Pros of Plain Text Email
- Your subscribers control the email font and size in their own software.
- Clickable hyperlinks work just fine!
- Clickable email addresses also work to quickly start a new email.
- Easy to compose, easy to send, easy to receive. No worries about incompatible software.
- Emails are easy to read on small devices. No excess pinch and zoom needed!
- Highly secure! Viruses can’t hide behind images or in a special font.
- Privacy. No tracking when or if emails are viewed or opened.
- Plain text is much more likely to pass through Spam Filters. That’s why our delivery rate is near 100%
How We Handle HTML Emails
At Mail-List.com, you can send emails in either format. We handle both HTML and plain text with ease! By default, all emails are sent as HTML. To use the plain text option, simply turn on Mobile First Formatting.
So now, you might be asking……“What if I have a nicely formatted newsletter to send to my group, while using the plain text option?“
We can handle that, too! Send the HTML email, and we do 3 things:
- That beautiful newsletter is made into a web page.
- The message is forwarded to your Subscribers as text only.
- In that same message, we include a hyperlink to the web page made in Step 1.
With this process, you get the best of both worlds. Great delivery rates AND an HTML option!
You’re probably wondering……”Why not just include the newsletter as an attachment?“
Great question!
Spam Filters don’t like attachments. They can include bad things like viruses, so often emails with attachments are blocked or sent to Spam.
And if the email ends up in Spam, are your Subscribers really getting your message? Probably not.
Here at Mail-list.com, we specialize in helping people communicate via email. Make sure your valuable ideas and important information get to your group by using text-only emails.
