There is more to bringing a successful community online than just going to Facebook and creating a Page, or filling out the New Group page at Google, Microsoft, or Yahoo!. Literally millions of people have started this process with an idea or good intentions, only to have the community die before achieving critical mass and have failed from the start because of a size limiting platform or ignoring moderation needs before opening. From more than three decades experience, I’ve identified eight critical steps to successfully brining a community online.
