The community that you are a part of is inherently part of who you are. You associate with the people that are in this community and as a result, you are slightly defined by who you are around. However, if something is going on that is not favorable, it is difficult for someone to separate themselves from it. As someone who will be judged by this regardless, they need to find other issues that they can overcome.

Key Takeaways:

  • Communities have had to close down, like that of StarlingBank, because of too much spam, discussions now holding on social media or a vocal minority causing problems.
  • Facebook will hire 3000 more moderators when moderating becomes a problem. It does not because of that shut down.
  • Communities like that of StarlingBank that shut down had to do so because they are not delivering results that would make investing resources reasonable.

“The real reason is the organization isn’t willing to invest the resources to overcome these problems. They might have plenty of engagement, but it’s not delivering results that matter.”
