Many of the messages on high profile business networks such as LinkedIn are spam messages sent directly through private messages. These can be a really bane to any community that is trying to network with positive people and create quality relationships. It’s hard to monitor when users are abusing private messages to attack others or try to sell something. For some people, it may be better to turn off private messages all together if you find it is hurting your productivity.
