Do you have problems with malware from a mailing list?
Malware is things like computer viruses, Trojan horses, and worms. They are ALL bad for computers. Malware can delete or corrupt files on your hard disk, intercept your bank account password when you log in, or turn your computer into a zombie that is controlled by somebody else remotely.
Not only do you NOT want malware on YOUR computer, you don’t want to send it to anybody on your subscriber list, either.
Mailing List Malware Spreads via Email Attachments
Email attachments are a common way to spread malware.
We’ve had viruses in PDFs, MS Word documents, executable files, Flash videos, pictures, music, and about any other file type you can think of. The computer virus scanners currently know about more than 1 million different computer viruses. That number grows every single day.
Malware Spreads via HTML Email
HTML email has a feature that allows small programs to be downloaded and run on your computer.
When you see rotating graphics, pop-up windows, and other fancy web page effects, it’s typically small programs doing the work. Programming languages like Java, Javascript, and VBScript are used in these small programs. If that program was malware instead, bad things would happen to your computer.
HTML email can also allow linking to websites that contain malware. The program was not downloaded inside the email but brought in from the remote server after a link was clicked. This type of malware is called cross-site scripting.
Malware Does NOT Spread through Plain Text Email
Plain text email cannot and never has been used to send a computer virus.
So, if you only send plain text email, then you will never spread computer malware, even if your own computer is infected. (Check out more Pros and Cons of using plain text email.)
Mail-List.com only sends plain text email but does allow attachments to be included. Our system scans any attachments with two different virus scanners, to ensure that we never EVER spread mailing list malware. Then, we add your attachments or original HTML message to a private web page. We send the web page link to your Subscribers to view online.
