Is the phrase ‘online community’ redundant?

Simone Inglis explores the fast changing Internet, and tries to answer the question of – What is Community.

Current definitions used in reference to the Internet are no longer applicable.  There is no longer a clear delineation between what is termed an “online or virtual community” and what is defined as a “real life community”. Online communities versus ‘real life’ or offline communities – the two sides of the community coin. The Internet is now just another tool that we use to communicate within our various communities.
