How the Nonprofit Sector Can Share What We Learn and Why We Should

July 24, 2016 By mark david mcCreary

Non-profits these days are gaining more knowledge at a faster pace than previously. The worrisome part is that all of this research and knowledge isn’t being spread out to the masses. Some organizations like to have restraint over how its used or published, while others are unsure of if their data is sufficient enough to publicize.Once there is a standard way created to release information, it will benefit both researchers and consumers.

Key Takeaways:

  • The nonprofit sector has access to vast quantities of knowledge not easily accessible to the public.
  • The organizations holding this knowledge have a responsibility to make it more accessible to the general public.
  • Optimizing the information for web searchability is a way they can enhance public access to this knowledge.

“To know what we know, though, sharing alone is not enough. For knowledge to be discoverable it needs to be organized, at least a little; which is where metadata comes in.”
