Email: OK for Basic Communication, Inadequate for Today’s Collaboration – Business 2 Community

Iain Pemberton argues that email is not adequate for collaboration, where collaboration is beyond merely communicating.

Among the many advances in business communication tools over the past two decades, the humble little email address has continued to truck along, remaining essentially unchanged and unchallenged as the world’s business communication tool of choice. In many ways, email makes a lot of sense: It’s accessible virtually anywhere, on a range of devices, it provides a written business record, and it’s asynchronous, allowing you to prioritize and respond to individual messages when you get the chance. Despite those advantages, there are plenty of people who’d love nothing more than to replace email with something better.
