In 2006 an online collaboration platform was launched for supporting Communities of Practice. Since 2006 the site now has 1,500 CoPs and 160,000 users. A successful CoP has many members, posts, and comments. The most successful CoP’s also have more than one facilitator who is interested and supportive of the team.
Key Takeaways:
- Over the past 10 years, the community platform has grown to support over 1.500 CoPs, with more than 160,000 registered users.
- Technical functions of the role can be taught, but the good facilitators/e-moderators bring another dimension to the role, i.e. empathy with, and understanding of, human behaviours and personalities.
- Based on a significant body of evidence, coupled with personal experience, if you want to ensure the success of your Community of Interest or Practice, make sure you’ve invested in in a team of good/experienced community facilitators.
