Changes in the way we work, including those brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, have changed online work communities. New structures are less rigid, depending more on self-management. The Community Maturity Model (which we created in 2009) utilizes strategies that are adaptive and co-created. Leadership is achieved by earning trust, and management is less paternalistic. In a community environment, governance is less standardized and more appreciative of differences and diversity. Tools and technology aren’t used to enforce control. Finally, metrics are used to encourage engagement behavior, not to create content for its own sake.
Key Takeaways:
- Those that have already worked with technology found the transition to work from home simple.
- Even though some are struggling, they probably won’t go back because families have more flexibility now.
- Productivity will also go up because you can get more done with more flexibility and offer more strategies.
“Organizations are also accepting that the COVID crisis will not end the change in working practices so their choice is to adapt or become increasingly inefficient.”
