Applying Ostrom’s Guidelines to the Design of Software Platforms | David Bollier

David Bollier investigates some of the theory behind software and systems for digital commons.

  What is more important to me, for now, is that there are computer scientists deliberately trying to figure out how to engineer “planned emergence,” as Pitt et al. put it. The scientists envision “a new type of intrinsically adaptive institution” that can adapt to rapid changes in the social, technological and physical environment (unlike contemporary government).
