A Much Better Way To Use Slack (and any collaboration tool)

July 2, 2016 By mark david mcCreary

When used efficiently, Slack can increase your productivity. Choosing participants at an exact start point gives the project manager greater control over the outcome of a given project. With the ability to choose whom, when, and how much information is viewable or usable by each participant, more efficient, and non-redundant work is created. Additional online tools can be selected to enhance the experience with the goal of streamlining the process from start to finish; work enhancement not the creation of more work…and more emails!

Key Takeaways:

  • Create purpose-driven channels.
  • Only invite people to join at the exact moment you need their approval, advice, opinion, or to perform a specific goal
  • Set the channel topic to the next step required.

“The downside is this becomes an overwhelming amount of information, it drastically increases the time spent communicating (this is not a good thing), and everyone is invited to share opinions regardless of their experience or expertise.”
